HISTORY
Hathaway Surgery was formed in 1990 when four GP partners moved into the refurbished premises at 32 New Road, Chippenham. Hathaway was chosen as the name for the surgery because the house was once occupied by the Hathaway family who owned the factory that manufactured milk and butter churns in the town. As the practice grew and times changed, the premises were no longer able to support the demand.
In 2007 the surgery relocated to its current larger purpose-built main site on Middlefield Road and was opened officially in February by the then Duchess of Cornwall, now Her Majesty The Queen, and is now known as Hathaway Medical Centre.
CURRENT
We offer a comprehensive range of NHS and non-NHS services from our main site on Middlefield Road. The building is split into four clinical areas which you will be directed to when you check in– red, blue and yellow are on the ground floor, and grey area is on the first floor, accessible via stairs or lift.
Car Parking – Parking is available on-site with a limited number of spaces available for patients. Parking on-site is therefore not guaranteed so please allow enough time for parking and checking in for your appointment.
Please be aware our surgery is separate to the dental practices on the first floor and pharmacy next door. Please contact them directly, we are unable to deal with queries relating to their services.
New Road Surgery
The original site at New Road continues as a branch surgery for pre-booked appointments only.
Car Parking – There is ample car parking available. On arrival by car please enter your car’s number plate into the tablet when you enter the building. There is a maximum stay of 2 hours.
Our practice information booklet can be seen here.
CCBPCN
We are part of the Chippenham, Corsham and Box Primary Care Network (CCBPCN), a collaboration of 5 GP practices which provides coordinated services to over 50,000 patients in the locality and supports a muti-disciplinary team including clinical pharmacists, first contact musculoskeletal and women’s health physiotherapists, and social prescribers.
This guide has been developed to help patients understand what to expect from your general practice (GP) and how we can help you, so you get the best from the National Health Service (NHS). More details can be found through the link below.

Hathaway Medical Centre- Values
Our values reflect the shared values of all NHS organisations, as defined in the NHS constitution, and underpin all that we do:
· WE CARE – We put our patients at the heart of all we do. We are respectful and compassionate towards patients and colleagues alike. We are kind to ourselves.
· WE ARE PROFESSIONAL – We strive towards excellence and providing the high-quality care that we would wish for ourselves and our loved ones. To do so, we proactively seek learning and development opportunities and follow guidelines where relevant.
· WE ARE FAIR – We respect and value every person as an individual with their own values, aspirations, commitments and contributions. We seek to understand their priorities, needs, abilities and limits and understand that some need more support than others. We value equal opportunities and dignity for all without discrimination. We are open and honest about our own perspectives and abilities. We are consistent in the way we deal with people, both patients and colleagues.
· WE WORK TOGETHER – We share learning, involve our patients and their advocates, colleagues and wider community for the benefit of all. Our success is built upon the personal and professional achievements of everyone at Hathaway Medical Centre.
· WE ARE ACCOUNTABLE – We speak up when things go wrong, take responsibility for our actions and learn from both successes and mistakes. We are open and honest, welcome feedback from patients, their advocates and colleagues, and use this to celebrate our successes, build trust, learn and improve our care both as individuals and within our team.
· WE ARE INNOVATIVE – We review our systems regularly and find ways to optimise the resources we have for the benefit of our patients, including through new technologies and IT, and are open to patients about changes we make to our systems. We understand that wasting resources means wasted opportunities for helping others. We participate in training and research for the purpose of contributing towards evidence-based high-quality care.
