Nurse Practitioners

There are three Nurse practitioners working at HMC. All have completed a course at degree level gaining extended skills in history taking, examination, diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of medical problems. The Nurse Practitioners are also able to prescribe medications without referring to a GP and refer patients directly to hospitals and for further investigations if required.

We now see all patients requesting a same day appointment who would once have seen a GP thereby freeing up GP time to see patients with more complex long term conditions. However we work closely with and are supported by an on-call GP should we require medical advice within the course of our daily work.
